Terms of use

Short, because a site that stores nothing, charges nothing and requires no account does not need many terms.

Using the tools

The tools on xmlvalidators.com are free to use, for anything, including commercial work. There is no account, no licence to accept and no attribution requirement.

Your documents

They stay yours. Nothing you paste is transmitted to us, so we never hold it and could not claim any right in it. See the privacy page for what actually happens to it and how to verify that.

No warranty

This part has to be said plainly. The tools are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind. They are written carefully and covered by an automated test suite, but no validator is a substitute for testing against the system that will actually consume your document.

In particular: a document this site reports as well-formed may still be rejected by a stricter parser, or by a schema you have not applied. A conversion between formats can be lossy, and where it is the tool says so, but you should check the output. An inferred schema is a starting draft and describes only the sample it was given. Do not deploy anything on the basis of a green tick here alone.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of this site, including loss of data, loss of profit, or any consequential loss. If that limitation is not enforceable where you are, liability is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is nothing.

Availability

No uptime is guaranteed. Tools may be changed or withdrawn. Because everything runs in your browser, a page you have already loaded will keep working even if the site is unreachable.

Acceptable use

Do not use this site to attack anyone. Specifically: do not use the URL fetch on the sitemap and feed validators to send traffic to a host you do not control or have permission to test. That request comes from your browser and your address, not ours.

Automated scraping of the site is not useful to anyone. The tools run entirely in the browser, so there is no API behind them to call. If you want the functionality in a script, each tool page shows how to do the same thing in code.

Content

The articles and error explanations on this site may be quoted with attribution and a link. They may not be republished wholesale. Code samples in the articles are yours to use freely, with no attribution required.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
